Durability and sustainability

Durability

Durability is a bit strange with vendingtrays.
Vendingtrays get little wear... When you wear them.

But they do get worn between being stored and being used.

Taking it of and putting it down, taking it to where it will be used and transporting it to a work site give more chance of damage than actually using it.

Take care of the tray when it is not in use and it can last a very long time!

Water and your Svendingtray

Our trays are mostly made of water resistant plywood.
But that is not the same as the trays being water resistant.

A Svendingtray can get and occasional splash of water but it can deteriorate from being very wet often. Here is why.

The glues used for manufacturing both the plywood and the trays is waterproof.
But if water reaches the untreated edges of the plywood and it can not dry properly, the wood can let go of the glue, resulting in what is called de-lamination.

We can use a more elaborate gluing process using epoxy so the seams end up being water tight but this is a more elaborate process and thus more expensive.

Sustainability

In todays market the majority of vending trays are made from plastic.
This is the easiest to do at a low price because it requires the least amount of finishing.

Svendingtray however uses plywood as a base for the trays, a renewable material.
This is either finished with paint or similar, or with a hard plastic sheet.

Now this plastic sheet by itself is not as sustainable as plywood. But this HPL is a superior finish compared to other plastics in toughness, especially in combination with plywood, resulting in a much higher expected life expectancy.

And long usability is an often ignored aspect of sustainability.
